US Missiles Reportedly Strike Iranian Oil Tanker Near Kharg Island By GPC.NEWS Editorial Team September 05, 2026 KHARG ISLAND, IRAN — September 5, 2026 | GPC.NEWS An Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island was reportedly struck by U.S. missiles, raising fresh concerns over the security of one of Iran’s most strategically important oil-export areas and the risk of further escalation in the Gulf. According to Iranian media reports, four U.S. missiles hit the tanker in waters near Kharg Island. Explosions were reported in the area, followed by reports that the vessel had been damaged. No fatalities were initially reported. At the time of the first reports, independent confirmation of all details surrounding the strike remained limited, and U.S. Central Command had not publicly confirmed responsibility for the reported attack. Kharg Island is of exceptional strategic importance to Iran. Located in the Persian Gulf, the island has long served as the country’s principal crude-oil export hub, handling a substantial share of Iranian seaborne oil shipments. Any sustained military threat to shipping or oil infrastructure around Kharg could therefore have consequences extending well beyond the immediate conflict. Traders are likely to closely monitor developments for possible disruptions to Iranian exports and wider shipping risks in the Gulf. The reported tanker strike comes amid heightened military tensions involving Iran and the United States. The proximity of the incident to critical energy infrastructure increases concerns that further escalation could affect regional oil supplies and international energy markets. For now, the extent of the damage to the tanker and the circumstances of the reported strike remain under investigation. GPC.NEWS will continue to monitor developments.
